The Revd Alex Crawford

Welcome to our church website which I hope will give you a sense of our rich and varied life here at St Margaret’s.  We would love to welcome you into church for a service or visit.

Our beautiful building is home to a large and growing family of Christians, seeking to deepen our faith, engage with our community and worship our Lord “in the beauty of holiness” (Ps. 96. 9).

Our worship since the foundation of the church in 1879 has been firmly rooted in the Anglo-Catholic tradition and we celebrate that today with full choral services with our excellent choir and organist, vestments, incense, plainchant and ritual.  You will find here a colourful, living expression of the ancient worship of the Church.  Mystery, beauty and symbolism are all important parts of our worship but we seek to create a space in which all may encounter the Lord just as they are.  We hope that whether it is your first time in church or you have been worshipping for decades, you may come closer to God and deepen your relationship with him here.

Our church building aids us in our prayer and is adorned with wonderful glass, paintings and furnishings.  It is worth coming to Ilkley just to see it!  We are only a short walk from the town centre up Queen’s Road.

As the pages of this website will show, we have opportunities for simple said and sung worship and social time through the week.  On Sundays our whole community comes together for our four regular services - Low Mass (8.00 am), Family Service (9.15 am), Sung Mass (10.45 am) and Choral Evensong (6.30 pm).  The Family Service and Sung Mass are followed by tea and coffee in our Parish Hall.

We have plenty for all the family to get involved in, including our children’s choir ‘Cant and Dec’ which during term time rehearses on Friday evenings and sings at the Family Service on Sunday mornings.  Playtime, our toddler group, meets on Friday mornings at 9.30 am.  We have exciting plans for more fun activities in the future.

We hope to meet you very soon and welcome you into our life together.

With my prayers and best wishes,

Father Alex Crawford, Vicar
